Madison Brandt

Smiths Station High Valedictorian

Madison Brandt was named Smiths Station’s valedictorian. 

Upon graduation, Madison will attend the University of Alabama.

“I’m unsure of my major but I’m planning to pursue something in the science field. I am interested in research and changing the world with new discoveries,” she said. 

Madison received the Kilgore Scholarship and National Merit Finalist Package. 

While at Smiths Station High, Madison participated in Areophagus, Rho Khappa, and National Honor Society. 

Her advice to incoming freshmen: “Take your education seriously, but make good memories in high school while it lasts. Also, respect your teachers. They are there to support you and help you grow.”

Madison is the daughter of Amber and Scott Brandt. She is the granddaughter of Marsha and Clyde Copeland. 

 



Michael Harper

Smiths Station High Salutatorian

Michael Harper was named Smiths Station High’s salutatorian. 

Upon graduation, Michael will attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Science and Technology Honors College. He wants to pursue a degree in neuroscience to eventually become a trauma surgeon. 

“I have always been fascinated with health and want it to be my career,” he said.

While at Smiths Station, Michael participated in: National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Varsity Tennis, Mu Alpha Theta, HOSA, Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, HOBY Alumni, and Rho/Calla Honor Society. 

Michael received the UAB Presidential Recognition tuition scholarship and Kilgore Scholarship.

Michael’s advice to incoming freshmen: “Find what you are passionate about and run with it. Make it your hobby. Learn to balance school and your regular life, because both are very important to your success.”

Michael is the son of Julie and Kenny Harper, and the grandson of Ted and Mary Harper, Jeanne and George Eger, and John Baldini.
