Glenwood’s boys and girls tennis teams completed their regular season by splitting a pair of matches with Morgan Academy and Lee Scott.

The Gators and Lady Gators were to play in Americus on March 30 but that contest was cancelled and another makeup with Northside Methodist was also called. That means both the girls and boys teams will be headed to the AISA state tennis championship playoffs to be held at Lagoon Park Tennis Complex, April 9-10. The girls’ record for the year is 9-4 while the boys finished 9-3.

The toughest opponent was 2017 boys and girls co-champion (with Tuscaloosa Academy) Morgan Academy. The Lady Senators won their match 7-0 over the Lady Gators. Only Georgia Denzik at No. 2 singles and Ella Nelson at No. 3 singles got more than three games against their opponents.

In the boys match the Senators won 6-1 with the lone Gator win coming from No. 1 singles player Mason Stickles. Otherwise the Gators captured only five more games in the six losses.

Both Morgan Academy teams are the overall No. 1 seeds in the state tournament.

Glenwood completed its regular season on a much happier note as they defeated Lee Scott boys and girls by the same 5-2 score.

The big advantage was in doubles where Glenwood captured both wins to take the advantage.

Katie Jones and Denzik won at No. 1 doubles against Lee Scott and Ella Nelson and Autumn McCain won at No. 2 doubles. Getting the other three Lady Gator points in singles were Jones, Carson Smith and Cassi Caughey.

The boys also got big points when Stickles and Kincaid Foster won at No., 1 and Chase Pennington and Max Rosso won at No. 2 doubles,  Getting the three singles points for the Gators against the Warriors was Stickles, Foster and Rosso.
