It was a record-setting weekend for Central Cross Country in Auburn at the AHSAA sectional meet. Central has an unprecedented total of 14 runners advancing to the Alabama State Cross Country Meet that will be held on Saturday, November 10th. The Central girls will be competing at 12:10 p.m. EST and the Central boys will compete at 1:10 p.m. EST in Moulton.
The entire girls’ cross country team qualified for state with the talent and leadership of 7th and 8th graders, who led the team at the front of the pack. The Central girls placed 2nd overall as a team with a total score of 55 among some very talented teams. Eighth grader Adley Burkes led the team with a time of 20:27, medaling at 7th place overall. Adley was followed with a 9th place finish by 7th grader Haley Wilson who medaled with a time of 20:52, 8th grader and 12th place finisher Abigail Garner at 21:11, 8th grader and 13th place finisher Kiley Murphy at 21:29, 7th grader and 19th place finisher Kailey Brougham at 22:58, 7th grader and 25th place finisher Mia Bell at 23:43, 7th grader and 31st place finisher Martha Hurt at 24:18, 7th grader and 45th place finisher Sarah Wilson at 28:13 and 9th grader and 48th place finisher Harlan Clark at 30:40.
The boys’ team also did well with five runners qualifying for state on an individual basis. The Central boys who will advance to state were led by 9th grader Kegan Dorrill with a time of 20:24, followed by 7th grader Brodie Norred at 20:42, 8th grader Andrew Scarborough at 20:54, 9th grader Ryan Smith at 21:23 and 9th grader Gaven Colopy at 22:05. Also having a great race was Dillon Murphy at 22:24, Connor Ramones at 22:44, Ashton Wade at 23:05 and Kaleb Andrews at 23:34.
