Lake Martin event raises almost $1,500 for Ruritan Club projects

Fishermen lined up their boats just before dawn on Lake Martin Saturday, Oct. 25 for the 18th Annual Buddy Bass Tournament. There was a total of 28 at boats at Wind Creek State Park. The start, at first safe light, began about 7 a.m. CT and the weigh-in happened at 3 p.m.

There were cash awards for the top three places and whoever caught the ‘big fish.’ Fishermen were treated to a lunch of hot dogs, chili, chips and drinks, as well as a visit to the prize table. Prizes included camo outfits, caps, coolers, lures, t-shirts, BBQ utensils, grill covers, and miscellaneous items which were all donated or procured by Ruritan Club members. The winners are as follows:

First Place: Robbie & Lynn Pritchard (Dadeville) 19.2 lbs

Second Place: Will Davis & Chris Landers (Alex City) 17.6 llbs

Third Place: Brent Reaves & Shane Turner (Alex City) 16.4 lbs

Big Fish: Darin Taylor & Jason McDaniel (Alex City) 4.6 lbs

The event netted the Ruritan Club about $1,500 to help fund their community-based projects, such as Book Scholarships, A Loving Touch Veterans Home, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Young Life, the Juvenile Conference Committee, and the Smith Station High school Ruriteens.
