April is Civitan Awareness Month.   Civitan International is an organization of community service clubs dedicated to helping others.  Civitan has a special emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.   As part of that mission, clubs help fund the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham, AL.  This world-class research center is dedicated to better treatment and understanding of disorders such as autism, cerebral palsy, brain cancer, and other illnesses of the human brain.

The Phenix City Civitan Club works with Happy Valley Adult Day Care Center (a center serving adults with developmental disabilities) sponsoring seasonal parties and providing arts and crafts supplies.  Food and blankets have been collected for the homeless.

The Phenix City Civitan Club meets the first and third Thursday of each month at Summerville United Methodist Church.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Club is invited to attend a  Membership Meeting   April 18that 6:00 PM at Summerville UMC.  President Debbie Coulter may be contacted at 334-614-2702 for more information.
