The East Alabama Chamber of Commerce, along with two board members, purchased three benches that will begin replacing 12 benches along the river walk path.
“This is a great example of little things all of us can do to help the city and the county,” Chamber Board Chair David White said at the dedication ceremony.
Chamber President Dennis Beson said this is just the beginning as there are 9 more benches that need to be replaced.
“It’s just the little face lifts that start to help in a bigger way,” he said. “When people make the loop, they can see the benches when they need to take a rest.”
Both Brindlea Griffin and Lance Brooks bought benches in memory of their loved ones. A plaque shows who the bench is in memory of.
Benches can be purchased for $2,500 through the chamber foundation and they are tax deductible. Contact the Chamber of Commerce at 334-298-3639.
