I’ve been the Executive Editor at The Citizen since 2012, but I’ve been telling this community’s stories since 2007 as a reporter. It’s been an amazing ride stepping into the public over the years and getting to know government leaders. I’ve taken on roles on committees and boards of directors over the years to help move things in a beautiful direction for East Alabama.
I like to think the newspaper makes a difference in East Alabama. I like to think we have an impact on bringing the community together by sharing stories of people doing incredible things, sharing classroom photos and sharing general news that affects people who live here. I hear from some of you pretty frequently, but I know there is a huge population of people in our coverage area who we may not know. We may not even know what you want to read about. Some people may not even know we exist.
We hope to change that. Beginning this month, we plan to have a monthly meet and greet breakfasts to get to know you better. The fourth Thursday of every month, we’d like to invite you to drop in our office and introduce yourself. Get to know us. Tell us things you observe in the community that you think would make a good story. And find out how you can help send us news. From 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., our office doors will be open to you to stay as long as you’d like. We hope these monthly breakfasts will help us get to know you a little better and find out what you think is important news.
In addition to monthly breakfasts, we will begin putting together a survey for readers to fill out in hopes to better understand what our news organization should focus on. We hope to increase our digital presence to get news to you quicker, as well as share more photos and videos that don’t always make it in the newspaper.
The Citizen has been part of this community for 65 years, and we hope to make the next years its best yet. We need your help to get there. Join us the fourth Thursday of every month at 2401 Sportsman Dr. and keep a look out at www.citizenofeastalabama.com for a survey.
