Alabama Power “Good Roots” Grant Approved
Crawford Park Getting New Pecan Trees
By Toni Stauffer
The lights for the Crawford Park walking trail are in the process of being installed, but the work in the park doesn’t end there. Russell County Commission Chance Corbett recently procured a “Good Roots” grant from the Alabama Power Foundation for $1,000. This is the third such grant received, previous funds going to improve the Crawford Park playground and walking trail areas and the old Russell County courthouse. The funds from this grant will be used to purchase trees only, no shrubs or bushes.
“We plan to use this grant funding for the walking trail area to purchase pecan trees,” Corbett said. “Over time, some of the pecan trees on that property have been lost to storms, or have died. This will bring new growth so that we have trees well into the future.”
Corbett said they are very appreciative of Alabama Power for this funding and will work to get the trees planted as soon as possible. The Russell County Commission voted to accept the funds at Wednesday’s meeting.
