New name includes East Alabama

The Phenix City-Russell County Chamber of Commerce has a new name. East Alabama Chamber of Commerce was announced earlier this week by President and CEO Dennis Beson. The name change came after a vote of the Board of Directors and members of the chamber.
“I think we’re all excited at the chamber of commerce to take on a new name, a new direction and continue to bolster the business community and the community at large,” Beson said.
Of the 93 votes that were cast, 85 voted to change the name.
“I think it shows that the large majority of the members that replied are very much welcoming of the change and are supportive,” he said.
Beson noted that the primary reasons for the name change include: Creating a regional name will allow the Chamber of Commerce to grow and draw from a wider area, communities that are in Russell County and neighboring counties such as Lee County will be more inclined to join the chamber with a more all-inclusive name, East Alabama combined with the Columbus 2025 initiative creates more possibilities for regional Economic Development, attracting tourism and events from a regional approach creates more possibilities when people search the web to find a destination, and opportunity to strengthen the partnerships of local and neighboring government agencies.
