Among the 16 teams in this year’s event will be Phenix City’s 10U All-Star – the same group of youths and coaches that won last year’s Cal Ripken Jr. 9U World Series in Jensen Beach, Fla. The team received an invitation to this year’s event as the host team. The group won its 2019 District title and finished second in the Alabama State tournament.
Alabama will also be represented in the World Series event by West Mobile which defeated Phenix City to earn its invitation. There are eight region tournament winners and eight teams that earned invitations.
Last season, Phenix City won its district, placed second in the state, won the Southwest Region by defeating the Alabama champion and advanced to the World Series.
The 16 teams will be divided into four pools of four teams for the first three days of the tournament. The top two teams will advance to World Series play while the remaining eight will go into a Silver bracket. The losers in the first round of World Series play will drop into the Silver bracket as will the losers in the second round of the World Series bracket.
