Fort Benning’s 2019 Best Mortar Competition will be a blast
The 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, at Fort Benning, Georgia, is hosting the second annual Best Mortar Competition, scheduled to take place April 8 through 11, 2019. The competition is open to the public starting April 9. The competition is scheduled to kick-off the Maneuver Center of Excellence Infantry Week.
Approximately 20 four-man teams from International military, U.S. Army active duty, National Guard and Reserve components, will gather to compete for the title of best mortar. Participating teams will complete a gauntlet of rigorous physical and mental events that test the range of mortar skills both technically and tactically that include, but are not limited to, Mortar Technical Gunnery Skills, Fire Direction Center Tasks (analog and digital capacity), Call-For-Fire Task, regular Infantryman skills (M17 Pistol Qualification, M4 Rifle Qualification), and abilities to move as a team successfully negotiating physical events.
