Glenwood’s boys and girls teams swept Eastwood Feb. 26 in the only match played during the week for the Gators and Lady Gators tennis teams. The dual match with Evangel Christian was cancelled on March 1.
“There were sick players and the decision was not to play and get anyone any worse than they were already were,” reported tennis coach Julie Humphries.
The boys swept Eastwood by a 7-0 score. The Glenwood boys’ lineup was Kincaid Foster, Breckyn Waller, Nick Thomson, Wyatt Wilkerson and injured returnee Will Haines at No. 5.
Thompson had the toughest match as he had to go to a third set tiebreaker to get his singles victory. The doubles teams were Foster-Waller and Thompson-Wilkerson and both picked up wins for team points.
The girls match was a lot tougher as the Lady Gators were without regular singles and double player Georgia Denzik, still nursing her injured ankle.
The Lady Gators picked up three singles wins by Katie Jones, Ella Nelson and Claire Mitchell. Jones and Mitchell at No. 1 and Nelson and Autumn McCain, who lost her singles, came back to sweep the doubles. Maggie Adams took the other singles loss for Glenwood.
Glenwood was home duals as the junior varsity played Southland JV on March 6 and are hosting Lakeside on today.
