Russell County, Alabama’s Crawford Walking Trail has been recognized with an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

NACo recognized Russell County, Alabama’s Crawford Walking Trail under the category of Park and Recreation for offering new services to county residents.

Russell County Commissioner Chance Corbett said, “It is an honor to receive this national award and recognition for our community and county. Much hard work has gone into this project and the benefits are seen each day as citizens take to the walking trail to be one with nature and even improve their health.

“I am so proud of the efforts of all involved as we continue to provide new services to our residents. This project builds on some of the great things we have been able to accomplish in the past six years in District 6. Our residents love it and they tell me that every day. It is my pleasure to serve as their county commissioner.”

NACo President Greg Cox said, “Counties implement innovative programs that enhance residents’ quality of life every day. This year’s Achievement Award-winning programs demonstrate how counties build healthy, safe and vibrant communities across America.”

Nationally, awards are given in 18 different categories that reflect the vast, comprehensive services counties provide. The categories include children and youth, criminal justice, parks and recreation, county administration, information technology, health, civic engagement and many more.

NACo will recognize award-winning counties at its 2019 Annual Conference and Exposition July 12-15 in Clark County, Nevada.

Started in 1970, NACo’s annual Achievement Awards program is designed to recognize county government innovations. Each nominee is judged on its own merits and not against other applications received.
