Soccer: Glenwood routs Fort Dale in season finale
By Ronald Frazier
Glenwood’s Lady Gators had seven different players score goals as Coach John Robertson substituted freely and took a convincing 10-2 win over Fort Dale in the team’s regular season finale.
“Everybody that was in uniform played and several played significant minutes,” Robertson said of his 2019 regular season closer.
In fact, Katelyn Johnson got her first start in goal and made three saves in five shots against the Lady Eagles. Three Lady Gators, Sydney Norris, Jennifer Ortiz and Emily Sawtelle all had two goals. Sawtelle also had an assist. Top scorer Jordyn Wheeler only had one goal but had a season high and team high five assists against Fort Dale. Carolyn Obert, Emily Ivey, and Bailey Carmean also scored goals for Glenwood while Carmean added an assist as well.
“I can’t say enough about how hard this year’s team has worked to get to where we are,” Robertson said about this season. “We have had a lot of players step up and can’t wait for the playoffs to start.”
The title will be decided on the April 19 in Montgomery at the soccer complex.
