Vinyard begins journey as new staffer in Commission Office
By Rodnita Simmons
Kelly Vinyard is the new County Commission Administrative and Facilities Assistant for Russell County. She started the position on Jan. 15, immediately after the retirement of Beth Monk, who previously held the position.
“It was scary but I’m loving it, I like always being busy and learning new things,” Vinyard said of her first few weeks.
Her new duties include taking messages for County Commission Administrator LeAnn Horne, scheduling meetings, creating work orders for maintenance, typing and video recording meetings, planning commission meetings and reconciling checking along with numerous other related duties.
Kelly has lived in the area all of her life, first in Columbus and now Russell County. She is a Carver High School graduate. Prior to this position she worked in the county tag office and then in accounts payable.
“I think I’m good at this job because I’m a people person,” she said.
Vinyard and her husband Bob have been married for 35 years. She has one son who is 27 years old and has recently married. Her favorite thing to do outside of work and spending time with her family is cooking.
It’s not hard to guess her favorite thing to watch on TV.
“I’m always watching the Food Network,” Kelly said. “I love to cook country style food and make cakes.”
