Free movie night planned for this weekend in Smiths Station

It’s not yet Halloween, but you can get out your yellow face paint and overalls for a minion contest in Smiths Station on July 14. On Saturday, the city is hosting its Second Annual Family Movie Night showing Despicable Me 3 along with a minions costume contest.

The event is free and open to the public. There will be food trucks, inflatable jump houses and more at the Smiths Station Sports Complex beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET. The movie will begin at dark.

This is the second year the city has hosted the event. Last year, approximately 300 people attended. It costs the city $2,500 to make it a fun, free event for the community.

“I’m excited for our second annual family movie night,” Smiths Station Mayor F.L. “Bubba” Copeland said. “Last year was a huge success and we are looking forward to it being even better this year. With food trucks, inflatables, live music and a costume contest, it’s going to be fun from beginning to end.”

Despicable Me 3 is the fourth highest grossing animated film of all time. In it, the minions hope Gru will return to a life of crime after the new boss of the Anti-Villain League fires him. Instead, Gru decides to remain retired and travel to Freedonia to meet his long-lost twin brother for the first time.
