Lady Red Devils ink pacts to play college sports

Six female athletes joined for a group signing of letters of intent on Nov. 14 at the football facility on the campus of Central High. Five of the athletes signed to play softball and one signed to play golf.

Central shortstop/third baseman Shelby Newsome, previously selected all-state, chose to continue her softball career at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. with the Gamecocks as an outfielder. She is the daughter of Dawn and Jason Newsome.

Outfielder Nayelica “Jelly” Diaz picked Anderson University in Anderson, S.C. as an outfielder. She is the daughter of Julie Diaz and Morgan Kirk.

Two softball players will remain locally with Chattahoochee Valley Community College — Kyleigh McHargue and Desalynn Nesbitt. McHargue is a catcher/first baseman and Nesbitt is a pitcher/infielder. McHargue is the daughter of Brandy and Kevin McHargue. Nesbitt is the daughter of Benita and Keith Nesbitt.

Jaleigh Hardin, a catcher, will continue her softball career at Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City, Ala. She is the daughter of Mary Ann Baugher.

Peyton Woody, who plays golf at Central, will continue her career in college at Point University in West Point, Ga. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Charles Woody.
