Mothers, grab your sons. Pick out your favorite blue jeans and throw on some dancing shoes, because Phenix City Parks and Recreation and the city are hosting a Blue Jean Ball on Feb. 9.
The Mother- Son date night will feature all the fun of food and dancing. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. ET. Mike and Ed’s will cater the food, and the Flower Cart is providing boutonnieres for the sons and corsages for moms. There will be dance contests, too, and photos available for $10.
Kristi Goggans, Recreation Superintendent for Parks and Recreations said this is the first year for such an event. She said she saw something similar happening in Opelika and thought it was a great idea.
“I had a son myself in May. You see all these daddy-daughter dances, but having a son really made me want to do this event. You’ve got to have something for the mothers and sons,” she said.
They are calling it a Blue Jean Ball because Goggans didn’t want anyone to feel like they had to go get a new dress or outfit, but instead, dress up or down as you feel like it.
Tickets are on sale now through Feb. 1 at the Parks and Rec main office, 1500 Airport Road. No tickets will be sold after that date. Tickets are $25 per couple and $5 for each additional son. Call 334-291-4719 for more details.
