It’s time for the annual East Alabama Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing. This year, the event committee is hosting the outing with a little twist. Travel the world, as this year’s hole sponsors will decorate tents in different country’s themes.
“We’re doing something new and exciting. I think it adds a wow factor and an element of fun,” said East Alabama Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dennis Beson.
Around the World in 18 Holes will allow golfers to enjoy a morning or afternoon of golf and experience countries like Haiti, Canada, Cuba, Germany, France, Australia, Mexico, Italy and more. There will be fun at each tent that corresponds to the country.
“The golf tournament, for our chamber, has been a tradition for quite a while,” Beson said. “There will be two meals built right in and golfers will get a golf glove courtesy of CTV Beam. Plus, there will be a great raffle.”
Which means this event isn’t just for golfers. There will be raffled items to include grills, a year of pest control, golf lessons, gift baskets, massage, whitewater rafting, furniture, dinner for eight at Bonefish and so much more. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day. Tickets are 1/$5, 3/$10, 10/$20 and 50/$50. Buy a few and drop them into the basket of the prize you’d like to win. You do not have to be present to win the prize.
New this year will be a golf ball drop and a chance to win $3,000. Chamber staff and board members are selling numbered golf balls for $25 each. On the day of the tournament, 500 balls will be dropped and the one closest to the target will win $3,000. There are also hole-in-one opportunities to win cash prizes.
The tournament, raffle and golf ball drop all act as the largest fund raiser for the East Alabama Chamber of Commerce.
Choose a morning tee time at 8 a.m. or afternoon tee time at 1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for morning tee times and lunch and dinner will be provided for afternoon tee times.
The golf tournament will be held Oct. 25 at Lakewood Golf Course. The four-man scramble is $400 per team. Chick-fil-a will provide breakfast, Buffalo Rock will cook on the grill for lunch and the Russell County Sheriff’s Department will grill a tasty dinner. Prizes will be given to winners from the morning and afternoon tee times.
The Chamber’s monthly Business After Hours will be held at the golf course the same day from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET.
“I always like the fun of a golf outing. I think people are relaxed and ready to have a good time. Its’s an oppotunity to network, have community fun and support our local golf course, which is great. And it means getting away from the office for a day,” Beson said.
