Housing Authority hosts visioning workshop

Reading Time: 1 minute

As part of the continued effort to revitalize Frederick Douglass and the surrounding Five Points target neighborhood, the Phenix City Housing Authority (PCHA) will host visioning sessions on Thursday April 25, 2019, to further engage our neighbors in the Choice Neighborhood planning initiative. In partnership with the City of Phenix City, people who live, work, worship or have an interest in our neighborhood are invited to share their voice and vision at either or both sessions, which will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM and 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM at the Chuck Roberts Activity Center, located at 100 16TH Street, Phenix City, AL 36867.

Last fall, PCHA and Phenix City received a $250,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These funds are being used to conduct a collaborative planning process that will result in a Transformation Plan for the entire Frederick Douglass/ Five Points Neighborhood, including the Frederick Douglass Homes site. This highly-competitive grant represents a tremendous opportunity for residents, businesses and other stakeholders, such as early childhood education providers, public and private schools, institutions, health care centers, and faith-based organizations to collaborate and plan for community improvements focused on housing, people and neighborhoods.
