The Smiths Station Lady Panthers (22-16) picked up two wins over the weekend at the Hoover tournament. After losing a pair to Gardendale (10-3) and Hewitt-Trussville (6-5) on Friday, they rebounded with wins over Chilton County (6-0) and Northview (9-1) on Saturday.
Bre Cameron pitched five innings of scoreless softball against Chilton County. She allowed five hits and struck out three. She was also 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Smiths Station scored four runs in the top of the third inning. Lexi Webb hit a one-out single to left and scored on Olivia Sinquefield’s double to take a 1-0 lead. Sydney Belcher walked and Cameron grounded out to short stop to score Sinquefield.
Alexis Cosgrove hit an RBI double to extend the lead to three and Teena Morgan reached on an infield error that scored Cosgrove. The Lady Panthers added two more runs in the fourth and would go on to win 6-0. Sinquefield was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Smiths Station scored nine runs on 14 hits in a 9-1 win over Northview in their second game on Saturday. Webb scored three runs and was 3-for-3 as the Smiths Station lead-off hitter. Cameron drove in three runs and was 2-for-3. Belcher was also 2-for-3 and drove in a pair with a double.
The Lady Panthers will travel to Dothan, Ala. ,on April 26 to play Dothan and Northview. The Class 7A Area 4 tournament will start on May 1 at Auburn High School. Smiths Station will play Central at 5:30 p.m. ET. The winner will play Auburn at 7:30 p.m. ET. The tournament will conclude on May 3 in Auburn.
