National Recovery Month was initiated to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and to encourage individuals in need of treatment services to seek help. It also celebrates individuals living their lives in recovery and recognizes the dedicated workers who provide the prevention, treatment, and support services that make recovery possible. Teens Empowerment Awareness with ResolutionS Inc. (TEARS), is certified by the Alabama Dept. of Mental Health as an Adolescent Outpatient Facility to provide substance use treatment, prevention and intervention services.
On Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, TEARS hosted a health fair to highlight National Recovery Month 2018. TEARS held the health fair to bring awareness to the existence of substance use and abuse in the Russell County area. The health fair also provided information on services available for treatment and prevention. In recognition of their event, Mayor Eddie Lowe, on behalf of the Phenix City Council members, presented TEARS with a proclamation from Phenix City proclaiming September 2018 as Recovery Month.
The event was supported by AmeriCorps VISTA and the Phenix City Police Dept. Captain Pendelton provided the location for the event. TEARS Inc. is a United Way funded agency.
