Sewing crafts group warms up those in need
By Toni Stauffer
Since the closure of the Phenix City Central Activity Center for replacement of the Center’s air conditioning units this past summer, the Sewing Crafts Group has been meeting at Midway Baptist Church every Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. ET. They plan to return to the Center once it re-opens.
The group focuses on thread crafts, such as crochet, knitting, and sewing. Members donate their time, materials, and skills to handcrafting beautiful blankets and other items for those in need.
The group recently finished 85 hat and scarf crocheted sets for critically-ill children, which were added to stockings for the Make-a-Wish Foundation’s annual Christmas party held on Dec. 2.
They have made afghans for nursing home, hospice residents, and other organizations in the area, as well as items for Warm Up America, another nationally recognized nonprofit organization that helps provide blankets and other items for distribution to the homeless and others in need.
The group is now welcoming new members. If interested, please call Jackie Adams at 706-761-8919.
