The City of Phenix City received word that the distribution facility operated by Vogue International will be closing their Phenix City operation effective April 30. This news comes a year and half after the announcement of the acquisition of Vogue International by one of the world’s leading healthcare organizations, Johnson & Johnson.
“We are continuously evaluating our manufacturing and business operations to ensure we have the right mix of talent, capabilities and resources to deliver premium hair care products to those we have the privilege to serve,” said Johnson & Johnson representative Lindsay Hymson Schechter.
The unified goal of the Vogue International and Johnson & Johnson integration is to their supply of high quality products, services and solutions to their customers. To achieve this, the organization continuously evaluates their manufacturing and business operations to ensure that they have the right mix of talent, capabilities and resources to deliver premium hair care products to those that they have the privilege to serve.
As such, the company has had to make some difficult decisions that will further enable them to best reach their customers. After a great deal of situation analysis, the difficult decision was made to close the Vogue International Distribution Center in Phenix City, Al. which also impacts the roles & responsibilities of the employees who work there. Johnson & Johnson has done a tremendous job of offering ample support to impacted employees and is committed to working diligently with all local, regional and state workforce development and job placement entities.
The city of Phenix City has deployed the State of Alabama’s Rapid Response Team and the Alabama Department of Labor to assist us in getting information to the displaced employees and in helping them find immediate employment. Along with state agencies, we’ve also partnered with Chattahoochee Valley Community College to provide information and training options for those wanting to take this opportunity to refine their skills set. The State of Alabama has funding set aside specifically for displaced employees to further develop their skills for future marketability. We are ensuring that these employees have that information. We’ve also partnered with Goodwill Industries and local employers to host multiple job fairs to speed up the re-employment process.
Vogue International joined the community from Clearwater, FL, a coastal community just outside of Tampa, and began operations in their Phenix City distribution facility in 2013. Vogue International currently employs 150 full time employees at their Phenix City plant. Vogue International’s current footprint is approximately 550,000sf across 2 buildings. The space is currently some of the largest and most attractive space in the region and we plan to backfill it as quickly as possible. We are working closely with the property owner, Vogue, the brokerage firm and the State of Alabama Department of Commerce to ensure this space is occupied with an employer that can quickly meet the needs of our existing and growing workforce. Furthermore, the owner is already entertaining proposals for a portion of the space.
