Construction on a walking trail in Crawford should be started soon.
During the Russell County Commission meeting April 25, Commissioner Chance Corbett said the portion of the trail under construction will be paid with Wiregrass RC&D funds.
In other highlights, the commission approved a $3,000 appropriation to the Ft. Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department to pay half of the estimated $6,000 needed to finish fencing in the playground there for safety reasons. Bob Franklin spoke on the subject, saying the fire department will match the remaining $3,000.
Also, there was an extended discussion regarding Parkman Pointe Subdivision and perceptions of the extent of the county’s versus the City of Phenix City’s responsibility in fixing homeowner’s complaints about road issues.
According to Commissioner Chance Corbett, the county engineer is estimating the costs of fixing the problems to be around $75,000 to possibly up to $100,000. There was discussion involving the county attorney over whether a civil lawsuit might resolve the issue.
