Pop-up art park, food truck park approved in W.C. Bradley-owned space

The food – sometimes it’s all about the food. Where can we get a little nosh? Is there a variety we can choose from?

Both of those questions will soon be answered in a rather unique way. Phenix City Council recently approved the creation of a pop-up art park in the space between the 13th Street Bridge and the pedestrian bridge in Phenix City.




But what does an art park have to do with food? In a word: everything. This isn’t an ordinary art park. Some really cool features have been discussed during planning meetings, including: creating a hammock area, building a stage area for live performances, having areas of commissioned art from the area’s creative minds, and even a place to create graffiti art. But the tastiest idea is that art and food can coincide in fabulous fashion.

A portion of the art park will include a food truck park. You heard that right. All the best flavors from fabulous rolling restaurants parked in one place for you to enjoy daily.

“I think that the Phenix City Food Truck Park will not only enhance the visitor experience to the Art Park, but also provide an alternative for lunch during the week and a place to meet and mingle on evenings and on the weekend,” said Troy’s Vice Chancellor David White. White is on the Art Park Committee.

The food truck park should be operational in July.

The rest of the park is still in development stages. A committee of representatives from SparkArt, the City of Phenix City, the W.C. Bradley Company, Troy University, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Help the Hooch, The Citizen of East Alabama, The Columbus Museum, 2WR Architects, Art Beat, and Uptown Columbus have met frequently to brainstorm the next steps of what will reside in the remaining area of the park.




A recent Art Park vision session invited local community members to visit the site to provide input and suggestions for what they would like to see in the park. In addition to brainstorming ideas for the park, the vision session included rock painting, a drum circle, belly dancers, a graffiti demonstration, face painting, and a mural unveiling by local folk artist Butch Anthony at the 1400 Whitewater Ave. parking garage.

W.C. Bradley owns the art park space. Currently, the company is constructing a multi-use building across the river. When the phases of the residential and retail development are complete, the company will begin a closer look at Phenix Plaza, which will include the art park. The park is made to be temporary or traveling for that reason.
