Reading Time: 1 minute

Russell County Relay for Life will kick off its fund-raising season Jan. 11 at the Central Activity Center from noon to 1 p.m. ET. The theme this year is “Strike Out Cancer.”

The event is the first of several celebrating survivors, raising awareness for the American Cancer Society, and raising funds for the organization. This is also an event that allows new teams or community members who may want to form a team to get acquainted with Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. The Relay For Life overnight event will be May 4 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Idle Hour Sports Complex.

The kickoff will include a hotdog lunch and a speaker who will tell his or her cancer story. The event is free and open to the public. For more information about the event, email Dimple Davis at dimpangel@bellsouth.net.

Relay For Life is the signature fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries.
