Art classes coming to Smiths Station Elementary Schools

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As we approach our 10-year milestone, we often look back and find that many of our decisions have resulted from a series of questions, “If not us, whom? And, if not now, when?” Through the passing years we’ve found that our charted path and perceived purpose grows more evident and multi-dimensional. To live a life artfully requires one to ever seek. And to live a life deeply rooted requires one to remain. Therefore, we’ve learned that in our seeking, it is of paramount importance that the things we gather be beneficial not only unto ourselves but that those things must provide a substantial amount of nourishment to the places we inhabit and by extension the people with whom we share our community. We must by all means leaves things better than we found them.

In 2017, we embarked upon a new venture at the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art. Bearing in mind the preceding questions, we felt it was time to extend our footprint for Cultural Arts Sustainability here in Smiths Station. In the Fall, through collaboration with participating local schools, we were able to launch the Sarah West Artistic Mentoring Scholarship for Continued Fine Art Education. This scholarship is made available to participating area schools, providing the opportunity of electing students for art class scholarships, made possible by the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art. From initial distribution of scholarship awards in the fall of 2017, we have since continued to work closely with area educators and counselors to craft ways to do more.

Parents and educators alike understand the need for more Cultural Arts Programs and Involvements on a local level. We listen, we discuss and we aspire to learn and exercise our ambition to facilitate those needs. It is with this cause carried close to our hearts that the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art is honored to announce the Spring debut of the Sarah West Artistic Mentoring Program After School Art Classes, coming soon to a local school near you.

Through the gracious support and requests of Wacoochee and West Smiths Station Elementary Schools, principals and teachers, in collaboration with the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art, a Spring Session of After-School Art Classes will be made available to students of Wacoochee & West Smiths Station Elementary, who enroll.

This program debuts as part of Wacoochee & West Smiths Station Elementary School’s Extended Day, with art classes following the end of the class day. Art Classes will be offered weekly for 8 weeks during the Spring School Quarter, beginning March 19 at Wacoochee and March 23 at West SSES. Similar to all classes provided by the Sarah West Artistic Mentoring Program, all fine art supplies are always provided to participating students.
