This is a good time of year to talk about the occult. God is a jealous God. He wants to be number one in your life and mine. He will not share us with other gods. Yet Christians go to psychics, read the horoscope, go to seances, play with occult games like the Quia board, and Dungeons and Dragons, read magic spell books and do spells.
The Bible says all these things are an abomination to God. Some people think it is a laughing matter, but it is serious business. Many Christians would never think of being unfaithful to their spouse, yet they are unfaithful to God.
Going to any other source for spiritual help beside God is spiritual adultery. It is opening the door of our life to the devil. The Bible tells us, “The things that are revealed belong to us and to our children and grandchildren, but the secret things belong to God. Go to God and His Word for what you need. If you can’t get it from God, you don’t need it.
I met a lady that said she was a woman of God. As she continued to explain things, I came to know she was a fortune teller, what is now called a psychic. She used crystal balls, tarot cards, etc. She said churches in town respect her and send people to her for help.
I was an insurance salesman at the time. She told me to be careful not to run over her ghosts on the way out. Fortune tellers, psychics, and mediums use evil spirits to do their business. Grant you there are fakes, but there are people who are serious about their powers.
I had a Christian friend in High School who was a witch and said it was ok with God. But it’s not. Mediums convince you that you are talking to a dead loved one. It is familiar spirits mimicking them. A lady who came to a church I was Pastor at had bad headaches. She tried everything. Doctors, medicines, therapy, but nothing worked. She saw an ad in the newspaper about a lady who could heal chronic headaches. She went, and the lady spoke some incantations over her. Amazingly her headaches were gone. A few months later she started hearing voices and seeing things that weren’t there.
I’ve been in million-dollar houses where they have an idol and they put food in a trough for it every morning. One lady showed me her collection of crystals. You hold this one and your depression will disappear. Hold this one and your sickness will be healed. Hold this one and you will have plenty of money.
A friend told me he dabbled in the occult for a while. An ugly demon appeared to him and wouldn’t leave him alone. He went to his Methodist pastor for help. He prayed with him and it left him. God said, “Woe to those who worship God and Molech (false gods, demons). Jesus said, “You shall worship the Lord your God and only Him shall you serve.”
