Tim Cole: Holy Spirit is with us
The Old Testament saints were limited in experiencing the Holy Spirit. Only prophets, priests, and kings were anointed of God.
We live in the last days when God is pouring out His Spirit on all flesh. Under the New Covenant all believers can have the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit in our life. The Holy Spirit is such a wonderful part of this glorious new life we have in Christ. We are never alone.
The Holy Spirit anoints us, He walks beside us as our partner in life, He comes upon us in power, He indwells us, He baptizes us in His power, He fills us, He glorifies Jesus in our life, He changes us from glory to glory into the image of Christ, He leads and guides us into all truth, He teaches us, He makes us holy, He shows us things to come.
Jesus said, “I will send the Comforter from the Father God. It is better for you that I go away.” Jesus went to Heaven and sent His Spirit to be with us in His place. He did not leave us alone in this big bad world. He came to us in the person of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “My Father and I will come and take up housekeeping inside you.” We will move in.
How does God do that? He lives in us through the person of the Holy Spirit. The Comforter comes to abide with us forever. He comforts us. He knows just the right thing to whisper into our heart that will help us through rough times. Sometimes a comforter doesn’t say a word. He is just there. Sometimes the Holy Spirit is just there and that is enough. What peace He brings!
The word “Comforter” in the Greek language is “Paraclete.” Jesus said, “I will send you a Comforter just like me.”
The Holy Spirit is our Partner in life. He comes to stand alongside us. To be with us in this earth walk. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to do with and for us what Jesus did when He was on earth. We must understand that God the Father is on His throne in Heaven. Jesus is sitting at His right hand. The Holy Spirit is here with us. Jesus was with His disciples. The Holy Spirit is with us and in us. Jesus could only be one place at one time. The Holy Spirit can be everywhere all at the same time.
Jesus is our intercessor in Heaven. He ever lives to make intercession for us. It strengthens me to know Jesus is praying for me.
We also have an intercessor on earth. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us. He takes hold together with us against the power of the enemy. We have an advocate in Heaven. Jesus stands before the Father God for us. We have an advocate with God, Jesus Christ the Righteous. He is our lawyer, our attorney. When we sin, He stands before the Father for us with His redeeming blood.
