Christmas is still 96 days away. You’re barely even thinking about it. We’re just now talking about Halloween and there is still a Thanksgiving feast to be had. You may be paying attention to what your children are asking for so that it can go on Santa’s list, but there is still plenty of time.
Russell County’s Department of Human Resources is already thinking about Christmas because there are approximately 250 children DHR is planning for to meet holiday needs.
“We strive to provide new clothing, toys and other items to our children in a confidential manner each yearso that our children can truly enjoy the holidays,” reads a letter sent to DHR partners.
The Village Foster Care and Adoptive Ministry in Smiths Station is already thinking about foster children for the holidays as well.
Most of us do online shopping or wait until after Thanksgiving to buy holiday gifts. That’s perfectly fine. However, don’t wait that long to contact one of these agencies to help children in our community also have a fun holiday season. These agencies and non-profit organizations need to know now which children are sponsored and which still need sponsors.
To help DHR provide holiday gifts, call 334-214-5780 or 334-214-5879. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’d like the department to handle shopping and wrapping, checks can be made out to Russell County Department of Human Resources with Children’s Christmas written in the memo.
To help The Village provide holiday gifts to children and families in the community, call 334-392-0166 find them on Facebook and send a message.
