A few times each year, we like to check in with our readers to find out what you want to read about. Since it’s the beginning of the year, now is the perfect time to do it.
This newspaper has been a voice in the community for 64 years. I marvel at that sometimes because we’ve seen the difficulty of businesses staying open for just a few years, much less 50-plus. It gives us pride that we have been able to serve this community for so long. While I’ve been part of this organization since 2007, we do have writers who have been covering events for more than 30 years. If you love Central High School sports, you probably follow Mark Clark’s articles each week. He has been writing for longer than I’ve been alive.
But our readers are who keep us going. We want to write about the things you want to know about. We want to take pictures of the things you think are photo-worthy.
As a community newspaper, it’s our job and joy to cover events that daily newspapers wouldn’t. We love taking photos in school classrooms of kids completing fun science projects, or being at National Signing Day to see what the number one recruit has to say about his choice of schools (that’s coming up soon, by the way). We also like being at the local meetings where leaders decide which direction to take the city or county. We want you to be there, too, and be involved in the community in which you live, but we also understand that not everyone can take off work to be at those meetings. We’re happy to relay the hot topics.
We know that as long as we keep putting your kids’ pictures in the paper, you will continue to cut them out. But what are some things you’d like to read about this year? We don’t know about certain events or feature story ideas unless you tell us. So send us a note this year if there’s something going on that you’d like to read more about. Drop us a line when you read a story that you found interesting so we know those types of stories catch your attention. We’ve made it easier than ever to get in touch with us. Visit our Web site at citizenofeastalabama.com, find us at facebook.com/TheCitizenEA or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We want to hear from you.
