Phenix City Council: Bridgewater project hits snag

Phenix City Council: Bridgewater project hits snag

The city of Phenix City held their regularly scheduled council work session on Oct. 5, 2020.

Council member Vicky Johnson led the invocation after Mayor Eddie Lowe called the session to order. The prayer expressed concern for City Clerk Melony Lee and her family. During the scheduled council meeting, a motion will be called for Shannon Davis to become the acting city clerk until Lee can resume her duties.

There has been a setback with the Bridgewater Dr. project. “We did have an issue today with the existing water line out there,” said Angel Moore. “There has been a longitudinal crack that has formed.” They hope to stay on schedule, but this issue could cause a delay.

A resolution for the construction of a fire training facility will also be voted on during the council meeting. The facility should not exceed $1,250,000.

“We currently do not have a training facility,” said Fire Chief Kris Kennedy. “We will be able to hold recruit schools here instead of having to send our employees out-of-town.”
