Sessions and  Tuberville runoff

If you voted in the Republican primary election in March, if you did not vote at all, or if you only voted for the constitutional amendment, you are eligible to vote in the upcoming runoff election on July 14. The runoff election that affects the Citizen coverage area is for Republican candidates Tommy Tuberville and Jeff Sessions. 

Sessions is a former senator who resigned his seat to become President Donald Trump’s first attorney general. Sessions was a senator for 20 years.  




Tuberville is a former Auburn Tigers football coach. Preliminary polls show him as a leader going into the election. His tour bus recently caught fire. Tuberville was not in the bus. 

The two finished the primary election in a near tie. The winner will face incumbent Democratic Sen. Doug Jones in November. 

In addition to the senator runoff election, the court of Criminal Appeals Judge Place 2 has two candidates on the ballot. Beth Kellum and Will Smith are vying for the position. 

Polls in Russell County will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET. Polls in Lee County will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.
