Central’s Jackson, Glenwood’s Grant, Holton make All-State First Teams

The 2018 Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State teams were released recently and four local athletes and a coach were named to the various squads.

Central High forward Donald Jackson was selected for the 2018 Boys Class 7A All-State First Team. Jackson led the Red Devils to the Class 7A Final Four this past season. The team lost to eventual state champions Mountain Brook, 70-42, in the semifinals.

Jackson was also named Honorable Mention on the Super All-State team.

Joining Jackson on the squad is Central coach Bobby Wright. Wright was selected as the Coach of the Year for Class 7A. Wright’s Red Devils finished the season at 21-5.

Glenwood had two girls selected for the First Team in the AISA classification – Morgan Grant and Shaquandria Holton. THe girls helped the Lady Gators reach the state title game for 2018, but lost 27-25 to Tuscaloosa Academy.

Johniqua Woods was named Honorable Mention for the AISA team.

Other members of the AISA FOrst Team were: Faith Copeland of South Choctaw Academy, Kelsey Curry of Tuscaloosa Academy and Joiner Hughes of Abbeville Christian Academy.

Rounding out the Class 7A boys FIrst Team were: Jamari Blackmon of Hoover High, Travarus Carroll of Hiuffman and Trendon Watford of Mountain Brook.
