Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) second baseman Rankin Woley has been a major part of their 15-7 record to start the 2018 season. He is batting .512 and slugging .845. He leads the ACCC with 41 RBI. He batted .667 (10-for-15) last week as the Pirates took 3-of-4 to start conference play over the Wallace-Dothan Govs. Woley was 2-for-3 in the series opener on March 8 at Howard Lake Field on the campus of CVCC. Isaac Phillips hit a solo home run, while Jason Rooks and Jack Copley added RBI doubles in the 4-0 win for the Pirates. CVCC ace Casey Cobb (3-1) received all of the run support he would need. He struck out 11 over seven innings allowing only four hits.
In the second game on Thursday, CVCC pounded the Govs 9-0. Cole Ganopulos (3-1) surrendered only two hits and fanned four batters. The Pirates scored two in the first and four in the second to take an early 6-0 lead. Woley homered, drove in three and was 3-for-4 at the plate. Davis Schwartz and Rooks had RBI doubles. Jack Lipson hit a RBI triple. The series moved to Dothan, Ala. on Saturday. The Govs took game three of the series 8-6. Wallace-Dothan scored six runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 6-0 lead and never looked back. Woley drove in four RBI in the loss. Kale Ledford and Woley were 3-for-4 each.
The Pirates won the series in the second game on Saturday 7-5. CVCC took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Woley had another four-RBI game with a double. Five Pirates doubled in the win: Woley, Schwartz, Rooks, Copley and Jay Meuse. CVCC will travel on March 15 to play Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette and will host them on Saturday for a double header beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
