Eufaula extends streak over Russell County to 16

Last week, the Russell County High ended a six-game losing streak with a victory over Sidney Lanier. This week, the Warriors saw another streak extended – one it would surely like to see end.

The Warriors fell to Eufaula High for the 16th consecutive time with a 54-31 loss and now trail in the series with the Tigers 35-5. Russell County has not defeated Eufaula in football since 1998.

The two teams combined for 85 points, the most since 2009 when they combined for 115 in a 65-50 win for Eufaula. The 85 points is the second most in the history of the series between the two region rivals.

Eufaula improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in region play. Russell County is 1-7 overall and 1-4 in the region.

Joe Green led the Tigers to their victory over Russell County as he ran for three touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Hess Horne.

Horne completed 14 of 20 passes for 144 yards. He had first-quarter touchdown passes of 17 and 11 yards to Green and Montavious Duckworth.

Green also had an 8-yard touchdown run to make the score 20-0 in the first quarter.

Xavier Peterson scored on a 10-yard run to give Eufaula a 28-10 lead at halftime.

Russell County cut into Eufaula’s lead with a 4-yard touchdown run by Quan Pritchett and a 34-yard field goal by Carlos SamPedro.

The Warriors got as close as 28-17 by taking their opening possession of the second half for a touchdown. D’Andre Hartwell scored on a 30yard run.

However, Green scored on runs of 3 and 2 yards later in the third quarter. Green finished the night with 52 yards on seven carries.

Peterson added a 17-yard run for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to finish up Eufaula’s scoring for the night.

Russell County had two more touchdowns before the night was over. Myrick Jackson ran in from seven yards out for one touchdown and Lamont Brown had a touchdown run of 12 yards.

Overall in the game, the Warriors collected 308 total yards. Six Russell County backs combined for 238 yards. Hartwell had the most yards with 78 on 10 carries. Pint Lokey had 63 yards on six runs. Jalen Mitchell ran 12 times for 43 yards. Jackson ran six times for 42 yards. Brown had 21 yards on five carries and Pritchett added three yards on 11 attempts.

Jackson led Russell County in receiving with 34 yards on one catch. JeRon  Clark had 30 yards on two catches and Mitchell caught one pass for six yards.

Pritchett completed 4 of 7 passes for 70 yards against Eufaula.

Russell County will be on the road this week for a region match up with Park Crossing. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
