The Glenwood boys and girls soccer teams came back from spring break and were ready to play as both teams hosted Macon East on March 30 and won easily.
In the girls contest, Karsyn Floyd provided the offense and Taylor Johnson the defense as Glenwood shut out the Lady Knights by a 6-0 score.
Floyd scored four goals and Emily Sawtelle and Caitlin Obert each had single scores to pace the offense. Jordyn Wheeler was also a key player in the attack as she had four assists for the six goals.
Meanwhile Taylor Johnson kept Macon East scoreless and allowed the Lady Gators to stretch their win streak to five games and improve to 6-3 in overall play.
“We played very well,” said Glenwood coach John Robertson.
Due to illness of the Gator boys coach, Robertson stepped in and guided the boys to a 9-1 defeat of the Knights to make it a clean sweep. With that Gator victory, Glenwood improved to 8-2 overall and an undefeated 8-0 record in region play with two games left.
Cameron Stamps was the leader in scoring for the boys with three goals while senior Kayleen Bonds had a shutout while in goal for the Gators.
“Macon East scored in the last minute against the backup goal keeper. Otherwise it would have been a team shutout,” Robertson said of the contest.
