Glenwood’s softball team kept up its winning ways as the team played three games and won them all to improve to 38-10-1 and head into the final week of the regular season with momentum.
The first game was against Edgewood Academy on April 9 and the Lady Gators got a strong pitching performance from Ashley Gallant and showcased their hitting prowess as they blasted four homers in the contest.
Prior to the contest Coach Dusty Perdue predicted, “This game will be a real test for us. I expect Edgewood to be in the playoffs and they will be a team we will have to meet again. This will be a good test for us.”
Glenwood should made the measure as Gallant pitched seven innings and struck out eight and both the Lady Wildcat runs were unearned. Kayson Boatner, who is zeroing in on the school home run record for a single season, hit two and knocked in four of Glenwood’s eight runs and Gallant, helped herself by hitting a homer and knocking in three. Carlena Hampton had the final RBI with a solo home run.
The next day, the Lady Gators met are foe Springwood Academy and both games last only five innings.
Glenwood shut out Springwood, 9-0 as Boatner, Hampton and Ariana Pinder combined for a one hit shutout of their area foes. Boatner hit another home run and had three RBI while she, Neely Austin and Sophie Wilkerson all went two for two at the plate.
The gators also played long ball against Springwood in the second as Gallant limited Springwood to three hits in the five-inning, 14-0 win over the Lady Wildcats. She had seven strikeouts and no walks while Boatner came in and pitched a scoreless 5th to finish the win.
Kamren Bence and Hampton went deep in the contest and Bence was the leading RBI hitter for the Lady Gators with four.
Glenwood did have a game scheduled on the road with Northside Methodist on April 12, but it was canceled.
‘We had a conflict with the state track meet held this week so we cancelled the game,” reported Perdue.
For the final week of the regular season, Glenwood will again face Edgewood for two games on April 16 and then host Abbeville Christian on April 17. The Lady Gators will then finish the week on the road in Eufaula and play Lakeside for two games before ending the regular season on April 23 with an opponent to be determined. The region tournament will then begin April 26 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery and run through April 27. This will determine the seeding and spots for the state tournament to be held the next week on May 4-5.
