Despite losing their coach of two years, the Glenwood girls and boys tennis teams just kept up their winning ways and won two matches for the week of March 5-8.
Now coaching the teams are volunteer coaches Jeff and Sheila Ezell as well as assistant Athletic Director Julie Humphries.
On Tuesday, the teams traveled to Montgomery and played Monroe Academy, a team that is regularly in the state championships.
The girls were undefeated as they won 7-0 over the Lady Volunteers while the boys had a tougher 4-3 win over Monroe.
Playing for Glenwood, who lost only six games in the seven matches were Katie Jones, Georgia Denzik, Ella Nelson, Carson Smith and Cassi Caughey. Denzik and Jones teamed up for one doubles win while Nelson and Autumn McCain won the other.
The boys found themselves without their regular No. 3, Mac Foster and put in Brecklyn Waller at the No. 3 spot against Monroe. He and Chase Pennington lost their singles but Mason Stickles, Kincaid Foster and Max Rosso won their singles and Stickles and Foster won their doubles for the Gators four points.
On March 8, Glenwood had a much easier time as boys’ and girls’ teams both won 6-1 against Lakeside in Eufaula.
The only loss in girls’ was Katy Clark, who subbed for Cassi Caughey at No, 5 singles. The Lady Gators still only lost 10 total games in the seven matches.
The boys were almost as dominant as Waller suffered the only loss as the boys’ team retained the same lineup as they used against Monroe. Glenwood lost a total of 13 games in the seven matches.
The girls are now 7-1 on the year while the boys are 6-1.
