The Smiths Station Lady Panthers (15-9, 0-2) found themselves in an early 5-1 hole, but rallied late on March 23 to defeat Enterprise 7-5 on the road.
Lexi Webb started the top of the first inning with a single and later advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Claire Garney. Olivia Sinquefield scored Webb from third with a groundout to second to give Smiths Station an early 1-0 lead.
The lead was short lived. Enterprise scored five in the bottom of the second inning. Paige Downing came on in relief and held the home team to just three hits over 5 2/3rd innings of shut-out softball. She also struck out five batters.
The Lady Panthers would cut the lead to three in the top of the fourth. Webb drove in Lauren Michaud on a groundout to second. Sydney Belcher hit a solo home run in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3.
Smiths Station would score four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Belcher hit a two-run double to tie the game at five. Sinquefield advanced to third on the hit. She reached on an error previously. Alexis Cosgrove singled home Sinquefield and Belcher in the next at bat to give the Lady Panthers a two-run lead that they would not relinquish.
Belcher was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, a double and a home run. Cosgrove and Webb were also 2-for-4.
