The Mother Mary Mission will celebrate its 80th anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 9, with a Sports Banquet from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. ET. Tickets for the banquet are $50 each. If you are unable to participate at this time, donations are welcomed.
The banquet – “Commemorating Our Athletes with a New Vision” – is the first sports banquet sponsored by Mother Mary Mission which is located at 318 Seale Road. The funds raised foe the event will be used to restore Mother Mary Mission to its prominence as a “Pillar of Hope” in the Phenix City area. It will also help maintain insurance coverage for the facilities. They will also help facilitate a variety of events, rentals and establish needed programs for the Tri-City community.
The banquet will honor several former NFL players, professional baseball players and professional basketball players for past performances on the field, diamond and on the court. Former Dallas Cowboy Frank Brown serves as chair of the committee.
The guest speaker for the event is State Representative Jeremy Gray of Opelika. At the event, the gymnasium at Mother Mary Mission will be formally named in honor of Jerry L. Barnette, one of the Mission’s greatest supporters.
Event sponsors are reaching out to every former student athlete and family members along with anyone who has ever participated at any events sponsored by the Mission in the past to help with this project. The Mission hopes to provide the same – and more – programs for the future. It needs your help, according to Roderick Howard, President of Mother Mary Mission, Inc., and Father Tom Weise, Priest of Mother Mary Mission, Inc.
